Welcome to the Herbs section of my Book of Shadows. I’ve been working on this for a while, though this is one of those things that will never be complete! This compedium of all things about herbs and plants includes magickal uses as well as cosmetic and medicinal uses plus interesting history and other notations. I’m working on finding images of each and every herb as well, but that will take a while. If any reader has any tidbits to add to this Grimoire please email them to me - I want this section to become a very useful and complete (well, as complete as possible) reference. And, of course, please ignore typos - I correct more of them every time I revise something.
An all-around versatile herb garden would consist of the following:
Agrimony, angelica, avens, basil, bay, betony, birch, broom, burdock, catnip, chamomile, chives, cinquefoil, coltsfoots, comfrey, coriander, dandelian, dianthus, dill, elecampane, fennel, feverfew, garlic, gentian, heather, hops, hyssop, lavender, lemon balm, marigold, mugwort, oregano, rosemary, St. John’s wort, tarragon, vervain, parsley, rose, rue, sage, savory, tansy, thyme, trefoil, valerian, woodruff, wormwood (caution: poisonous), and yarrow.
The most versatile trees/shrubs and berries are:
Alder, hawthorn, oak, elder, hazel, rowan, foxglvoe, heather and willow.
