It is wonderful when children help cook, it opens their imagination and induces a feeling of self confidence.
But please don't let your child work with food that you would not be comfortable letting them eat raw.
Fruits & vegetables, etc are okay, once washed thoroughly.
Never let your children touch raw meat. or raw eggs, these foods can carry bacteria that can make them sick, and though the bacteria is killed in the cooking process making meats and eggs safe to eat. In un-cooked food (raw stages) these bacteria can make your children ill or even cause death at times

For some people having children help with cooking is a family tradition and considered common practice.
However since children often have their hands on their face and in their mouths without giving it a second thought we must use great care in choosing which foods we allow them to touch in the raw stages.
Although rolling meatballs may be a job a child is capable of doing, It is not a job they should be doing, because in doing so the child is touching raw meat and therefore not advisable.
Some of the bacteria that can be transmitted by raw eggs and raw meats are :
e-coli & botulism. Please consult your pediatrician for more information on this subject.
This month's recipe of the month is simple enough for children to help with, and though I would not advice that the help with rolling the cookies (raw egg in recipe) they could help by adding chocolate chips or pressing the cookies with a fork before baking.
Please take your child's age and abilities into consideration before assigning them a job that they can help with.
