Basic White Sauce
White Sauce, great for serving over steamed vegetables, with corn kernels cut freshly off the cob, or with cauliflower florettes.
This very simple sauce dresses up simple dishes to make them special.
This sauce is also very versatile and is considered one of the "Mother Sauces". It is the base sauce for many more elaborate sauces. Basic White Sauce
2 Tablespoons Butter
2 Tablespoons Flour
1 Cup Milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper.
in a small sauce pan, over medium low heat, melt butter, add flour, salt and pepper and stir continuosly until mixture becomes bubbly and opaque, slowly stir in milk, while whisking to dissolve any lumps, bring mixture to a low boil to assure full thickening. |
